An arm lift, also known as Brachioplasty, is a cosmetic surgery that aims to improve the appearance of the underside of your upper arms.

During the procedure, excess skin and fat between the armpit and elbow are removed to achieve a more toned and attractive look. As you age, the skin on your upper arms may sag and become loose, especially after significant weight loss. This can cause self-consciousness, especially when wearing sleeveless clothing.

While exercise can help to tone the muscles in the upper arm, it cannot address excess skin that has lost its elasticity. In cases of moderate to severe sagging, an arm lift may be the best option for achieving a more youthful appearance and boosting self-esteem.

For cases where there is only fat accumulation between the shoulder and elbow, as well as a sagging appearance, the “Vaser Liposuction” technique can provide a solution. However, in cases of extensive sagging, liposuction alone may not be enough. In such cases, an incision is made from the elbow to the underarm to remove the excess skin. For cases of mild sagging, a “Mini Arm Lift” can be performed with a small incision under the armpit.

Both the traditional arm lift and the mini arm lift are performed under general anesthesia, with the mini arm lift taking about 1.5-2 hours and the traditional arm lift taking 2.5-3 hours on average. A one-night stay in the hospital is required for both procedures.

After the surgery, there may be numbness, swelling, and bruising, but these will subside over time. Patients can return to social activities in about a week, but should avoid carrying heavy loads and engaging in strenuous physical activities for at least a month. A special corset must be worn for the next four weeks. Dressings and check-ups are usually completed on the fifth day after surgery.
